چکیده

Aims. We searched for very high energy (VHE) γ-ray emission from the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A Methods. The shell-type supernova remnant Cassiopeia A was observed with the 17 meter MAGIC telescope between July 2006 and January 2007 for a total time of 47 hours. Results. The source was detected above an energy of 250 GeV with a significance of 5.2 σ and a photon flux above 1 TeV of (7.3±0.7stat±2.2sys)× 10−13cm−2 s−1. The photon spectrum is compatible with a power law dN/dE ∝E with a photon index Γ=2.3±0.2stat±0.2sys . The source is point-like within the angular resolution of the telescope.

Observation of Extragalactic Sources of Very High Energy Γ-rays with the Magic Telescope

MAGIC is currently the largest single dish ground–based imaging air Cherenkov telescope in operation. During its first cycle of observations more than 20 extragalactic objects have been observed, and very high energy γ-ray signals have been detected in several of them. The results of this observations are presented, together with a discussion of the spectral characteristics and the flux variabi...

Discovery of VHE γ-rays from the blazar 1ES 1215+303 with the MAGIC Telescopes and simultaneous multi-wavelength observations

Context. We present the discovery of very high energy (VHE, E> 100 GeV) γ-ray emission from the BL Lac object 1ES 1215+303 by the MAGIC telescopes and simultaneous multi-wavelength data in a broad energy range from radio to γ-rays. Aims. We study the VHE γ-ray emission from 1ES 1215+303 and its relation to the emissions in other wavelengths. Methods. Triggered by an optical outburst, MAGIC obse...

Observation of selected SNRs with the MAGIC Cherenkov Telescope

Supernova Remnants (SNRs) are believed to be the acceleration sites of galactic cosmic rays. As such they are expected to produce Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-rays through hadronic and/or electromagnetic scenarios, hence they are natural targets for observations with ground-based Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs). Currently, VHE emission has been detected from several SNRs, makin...

Observation of Very-High-Energy Gamma-Rays from Blazars with the MAGIC Telescope

Blazars, a subclass of active galactic nuclei in which the jet is aligned very close to our line of sight, can accelerate charged particles to relativistic energies in the jet. Electromagnetic emission from this class of sources can be observed from radio up to TeV energies. The MAGIC telescope is an Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope with a 17-m diameter dish, located on the Canary Island...

VHE γ-ray Afterglow Emission from Nearby GRBs

Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) are among the potential extragalactic sources of very-high-energy (VHE) γ-rays. We discuss the prospects of detecting VHE γ-rays with current ground-based Cherenkov instruments during the afterglow phase. Using the fireball model, we calculate the synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) emission from forward-shock electrons. The modeled results are compared with the observational...
